HANC High School Open House Welcomes Record Crowd

On Sunday, November 4th, HANC High School welcomed eighth grade prospective students and parents to its annual Open House. Guests either pre-registered or signed in using iPads with the assistance of its own HANC geniuses and were greeted by the school band. The program showcased the HANC High School experience emphasizing the theme of this year’s Open House, WE ARE HANC.
After a delightful breakfast, the program began with opening remarks from HANC Menahel, Rabbi Shlomo Adelman who, along with current HANC students, described the three main components that define this outstanding yeshiva: Character, Commitment, and Community. Junior, Shana Lefkowitz, began with a meaningful d’var Torah, followed by sophomore Gabe Lovy, and Rafi Akhilov, who each described their individual experiences relating to one of these components. The opening session concluded with an exciting new video entitled “Dear Thirteen Year Old Me,” which can be viewed on Youtube or the HANC High School Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/HANCHighSchool/
Parents and students then proceeded to classrooms, where they attended mini-lessons given by our esteemed faculty members in both Limudei Kodesh and General Studies. Following the lessons, students and parents participated in a number of informational showcases. Parents met with Associate Principal, Mrs. Marie Palaia, who gave an overview of the general studies program, and Director of College Guidance, Ms. Karen Sheff, who spoke of the many programs that the department offers.
In addition, during the parent informational session, parents were introduced to Mr. Michael Chisena, Senior Director of Administration and Director of the Sports Journalism Institute at Hofstra University. Mr. Chisena spoke about the unique partnership that HANC and Hofstra has forged in working together on numerous experiential and academic opportunities. At the conclusion of the open house parents were invited to take a tour of the Hofstra Broadcasting facility utilized by HANC’s newly formed Journalism class.
Parents also participated in an Academic Fair meeting with directors and chairs of various departments who gave presentations and were on-hand to answer questions.
Prospective parents then had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel consisting of current parents, students, and HANC alum. Simultaneously, prospective students participated in two electives of their choosing within the Student Expo. This showcase featured Engineering, Coding, Art, Music, Athletics, and a Student Panel.
The program concluded with an Activities Fair, where students learned about athletics and the incredible array of co-curricular and extra-curricular clubs available to HANC students.
Guests left with a picture magnet, HANC sweatpants, and an appreciation of the rigorous, warm, and individualized program offered at HANC High School.
