Names Not Numbers© was conceived by Tova Fish-Rosenberg and has been undertaken with her guidance at Jewish Day Schools across the country. HANC Middle School is proud to be participating in such a unique and life changing program.
Groups of eighth grade students are assigned a Holocaust survivor whom they work with throughout the year. Students research the survivor using books, the internet and a trip to the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City.
The students learn video interview techniques from a professional filmmaker, including practiced use of the hi-tech equipment. They then compose their own questions for the survivor and using documentary film tools, they conduct an actual videotaped interview with their survivor. They edit their own work with assistance from a professional and complete their own documentary film project. The project culminates in an evening of celebration where our students premiere their documentary, to which parents and grandparents are invited.
We are aware that many of our 8th Grade students have family members who were affected by the Holocaust and the events that surrounded it, both those who perished but also those who fortunately survived.
We would like to honor those family members at the premiere event and will be compiling a memorial journal for the evening. We would like to invite you to place an ad to commemorate those who were affected.
